Chairs
The chair is nowadays a familiar and widely used piece of seating furniture. It has become an everyday piece of home furniture since the 16th century and has since developed a large number of variations. The structure is simple: a chair has a frame - the seat, a backrest and usually four legs; chairs with three legs or swivel mechanism are rarer. The folding chair is a practical special form, rocking chair a relaxed chair variant. The backrest distinguishes the chair from the stool, the square or round seat from the bench. An armchair has additional side rests. In the various designs there is a wide range from simple chair to functional, comfortably shaped, often upholstered variant, from simple to original designer piece, from restrained to ornamentally decorated.
Chair - functions
Decisive for the type of a chair is primarily its use, which usually already clearly determines the form. A chair in the living area, a dining chair, a kitchen chair or desk chair- each has characteristic elements; the differences are, of course, smooth. On the one hand, stability and load-bearing capacity are decisive. Not every chair is built for every weight. The seat height is crucial; ideally, it should be between 42 and 48 cm. The quality and comfort of the seat and backrest are also important, especially during extended use. There are, of course, binding rules for the design and safety of chairs; the relevant standards are DIN EN 1335 (office furniture - office work chairs), DIN EN 1728 (for furniture - seating furniture - test methods for determining strength and durability) and DIN 68878 (for chairs for the home - performance characteristics - requirements and test methods). So if you want to be absolutely sure about your choice from a special point of view, you can get advice here.
Chair - material and design
There are versatile seating options that make life more relaxing. For example, if you sit down on a chair, you can cuddle up into and relax. You can also feel the same way on comfortable benches, stools and especially chairs. The good thing about it, besides the fact that chairs can match their surroundings well, is that they are also versatile in different rooms. For example, you can put a chair in the dining room, but the chair also looks good in the living room. Often, the high-quality chairs are made of beech or oak, but not only from it, but also from many other materials. If you feel like a change of scenery and would like to sit in nature, the various seats from Dedon are just the right thing.
