The porcelain mass - a mixture of porcelain clay, feldspar and quartz - is not cast in Lambert Piana porcelain, but carefully shaped by hand. After an initial "glow firing," which removes moisture from the blank, the "glaze firing" takes place at a higher temperature after the glaze is applied. Porcelain pieces without glaze have a slightly grainy glazed surface, a smooth feel. In the Piana collection, Lambert plays with this contrast: the bottom of the porcelain pieces is unglazed, the surface glazed. This gives this everyday porcelain a special charm. Also appealing about the Piana collection are the subtle color variations. On the one hand, this porcelain is available in pure white.
